Bloggers Quilt Festival, 2010

bqf10sm
It’s that time of the year again when Amy (bless her heart) organises the Autumn Bloggers Quilt Festival.  Click on the button above for a link back to her blogspot to see what’s happening, or use the one in my sidebar.
Last year I tried to enter a quilt but couldn’t get Mr Linky to work for me, so I hope this year I have more success.
The quilt I am entering is ‘Fantail Fantasy’, this quilt reminds me of a dear friend,  Jan.  She  and I often challenged each other not only in to  making various quilts, but, most importantly, finishing them!
Fantail Fantasy is a combination of applique and pieced work.  I knew that I wanted more muted colours in my pieced work and was having trouble finding enough pieces of fabric that co-ordinated well.  In the end I used a couple of Charm packs – fantastic, they worked a treat. The remainder of my fabric choices came from my stash – really! Although I chose those ‘country’ colours for the pieced work I chose a fine stripe for the applique background, as it was quilted so heavily the stripes have all but disappeared.  To help 'bring out' the blue in the pieced blocks, I added a 1/4" blue pleat as the first border.

If you click on the picture you should be able to see the small bugs on the vines that the fantails feed upon.
This quilt is a basic cot quilt size and was designed as a wall hanging.  All applique is by hand and the piecing and quilting is by machine, like other SAL I found the joining in with a friend made the making of this quilt a celebration rather than a challenge.
Thank you for visiting.

  2. Wow, that is gorgeous. The colours in it are lovely. Did you design it yourself or use a pattern?

  3. I enjoy the combination of pieced blocks with an applique design. This is such a pretty quilt.
As a side note, thought I'd let you know your link in the BQF has an error (the http is in there twice), so you might be missing on some visitors as they will be getting an error message. You should probably contact Amy and see if she can fix it for you. It would be a shame if other visitors missed out on this lovely quilt.
